The New Normal is an autobiography, focusing on the years shortly before, during, and after my coming out as transgender. I was raised male, but am now legally and medically recognized as female. Fortunately, I was writing in-depth personal essays before, during, and after coming out, so after my transition was completed in 2015 I decided to share my experiences with the world. I have supported my experiences with extensive research into gender studies and psychology, making this more of an autoethnography.

Idiot-proofing Democracy came about after studying political science starting in 2012, and getting frustrated with the utter lack of qualifications that many politicians have. It started with some tongue-in-cheek proposals about creating a Liberal Vermin Party, which I dropped in favor of focusing on the key issues.

File Sharing

Dr. Booker is something of a packrat, so she has saved files for decades. Some were used for classroom handouts, some for various engineering needs, and some just for the heck of it.

Academic Publications

Dr. Booker was a teaching professor, so she didn't publish peer-reviewed journal articles often. Most of her publications were from her doctoral dissertation research in biomedical engineering, or HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) research for which she assisted an outstanding colleague, Dr. Jennifer Rode.

Media Appearances

Dr. Booker has appeared on various Philadelphia area TV shows and radio stations, usually talking about various computer technologies.

In addition, she has performed as a spoken word artist, dancer, shadowcast member, and burlesque performer.

Blogs

Starting in 2012, Dr. Booker began to collect her essays about a very wide range of topics in a blog, socialsciencepapers.wordpress.com. The need came about when she was looking for her expansion of the Equal Rights Amendment, and couldn't remember in which assignment she had first expressed it. Her ERA is now part of Idiot-proofing Democracy.

SocialSciencePapers has 100 entries, covering topics from politics to psychology to gender studies to world history to sports to you get the idea. The most popular entry recently has been my introduction to playing golf.

The SocialSciencePapers blog is mainly for file sharing, so this blog will be more for narratives about my books and my personal history with computing and then-current events.
